fundraising for all type of churches SUGGESTED MATERIALS Successful campaigns must provide the tools that facilitate the giving and decision-making process.
Rules of Thumb for a Successful Presentation: The brochure should contain the same information as the presentation. Successful campaign meetings are more Vision-oriented than Detail-oriented. Its an opportunity to ignite enthusiasm for all the possibilities of the future while reminding people about the realities of now. It emphasizes benefits not needs. This presentation should have a strong explanation of the background and history of this project (steps taken to gather input from parish; related-committees and who is/was on them; various meetings and goal-setting process that was conducted). Incorporate testimonials from parents, church-school teachers and parishioners (excerpts from survey and interviews). Build presentation around Case Statement. Presentation should take about one hour. In-Pew Survey The in-pew survey gives every parishioner an opportunity to express their opinions and concerns. It can also be used as a tool to impart information about the campaign process and building plans. Through the survey, everyone is given an opportunity to self-identify giving levels and willingness to volunteer. Click here to see a sample In-Pew Survey.
Pulpit Announcements Pulpit announcements should be done weekly. They include updates on the progress of the campaign, thank you to volunteers, reminders to attend meetings and a variety of other relevant campaign information. Click here to see a sample Pulpit Announcement.
Bulletin Inserts An effective Bulletin Insert is typically a one-page, concise informational communiqué. Its contents depend on the previous weeks campaign progress and varies from week-to-week. For instance, it may contain a personal testimonial about the meaning of the renovations, regular financial updates, appeals to volunteer, special recognition for volunteers. It may be appropriate to provide a question/answer segment or a column by the Pastor or a key campaign leader. Click here to see a sample Bulletin Insert. Volunteer Form A volunteer form is given out at each campaign presentation to determine who is interested in giving a financial gift and who is interested in serving as a volunteer. These forms are collected at the end of each meeting after a personal appeal by the Pastor to consider a volunteer role and financial gift. Click here to see sample Volunteer Form. Presentation Outline The presentation outline is unique to each church. In general, it will contain background of project, vision of church, benefits to church and community as a result of successful campaign, financial details, architectural details and a personal appeal to volunteer and consider a financial gift. As a general rule, the presentation, whether given to a small group, large group or individual must be vision and mission-oriented. Click here to see a sample Presentation Outline. Training Guide Training Guides are provided to all campaign leaders and vary depending upon the role of that particular member. Every volunteer (Major Gift Committee, Executive Team, Team Captain, Team Worker) receives a comprehensive training guide that includes sample scripts, anticipated questions, rules of thumb, and detailed descriptions of roles and responsibilities. Training Guides for soliciting Major Gifts are provided for all members of the Major Gift Committee. Click here to see a sample Training Guide. |
