THE CAMPAIGN PROCESS

A successful campaign will follow a phase-by-phase process. With some exceptions, there are typically six phases in a campaign:

Phase I

The Design & Marketing Phase (4-6 weeks) - Crucial first step to the overall success of the campaign. Determines best campaign approach, case statement, timeline and identifies volunteers and major gift prospects.

Phase II

The Pace Setter Phase (3-4 weeks) – Preparation of campaign materials and initial major gift solicitation visits are made.

Phase III

The Leadership Phase (3-4 weeks) – Solicitation of Leadership Gift prospects.

Phase IV

The Recruitment Phase (3-4 weeks) – Recruitment & solicitation of key volunteers to function as campaign leaders during the Participation Phase.

Phase V

The Participation Phase (3-4 weeks) – Solicitation of general church membership.

Phase VI

The Closure Phase (ongoing) – Close-out of all remaining prospects and ongoing pledge redemption.

The following chart illustrates a Basic Six-Phase Campaign:

Definitions:

Volunteer Sunday – Volunteer Sunday is an opportunity, during Mass or Service, for all members to return their RSVP cards that indicate which parish-wide meeting they will be attending. Click here for sample volunteer form.

Commitment Sunday – Commitment Sunday is a target date for all pledge redemption cards to be returned. It consists of a campaign-related, vision-oriented mini presentation and a special offering to collect pledge redemption cards. It is helpful to have extra pledge cards in the pews. Also, the presentation can often be given by volunteers and campaign leaders.

Amen Sunday – Amen Sunday is meant to be the final and official date when pledge cards are returned. Members are given an opportunity during service or Mass to fill out an Amen Sunday card. The Amen Sunday card looks different than the regular pledge card. Click here for a sample Amen Sunday Form.

On AMEN SUNDAY members are asked, during a special announcement, to complete an AMEN Sunday gift card. Those who have already made their decision, whether yes or no, to support the campaign write, "AMEN" across the card. Those who have not made a decision are asked to, at that time, decide by checking the appropriate box. Then all cards are collected in a special collection.

AMEN SUNDAY is a chance to ‘pull out all the stops’ and highlight the renovations or construction, thank volunteers, and speak about the results of the campaign and how they will affect the future of the church. Some churches have gone so far as to have religious education classes ‘parade’ hand-drawn artwork during the Mass or Service that relates to the campaign theme. AMEN SUNDAY should have a celebratory atmosphere so that the church has an opportunity to celebrate its success together as a community. Ideally the campaign will reach its financial goal during AMEN SUNDAY.
